At the end of 2018, additional requirements were introduced regarding the labeling of products using genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries. The new standards included in the Union’s technical regulation ‘On labeling of food products’ enable buyers to make a more informed and correct choice of food products.
The word ‘GMO’ will now be placed in large print next to the sign of a single circulation of products on the Union-wide market – EAC. At the same time, the GMO mark should correspond to the shape and size of the EAC mark. The Russian ROSPOTREBNADZOR has taken into account the wishes of consumers and has obliged all producers to clearly indicate in large letters at a specific place the label ‘GMO’, which will allow for more transparent and easy visibility of such information on the packaging throughout the period of storage of food products.
