Imports of Russia in January-August 2021 amounted to 188.3 billion US dollars and increased by 29.3% compared to January-August 2020. Non-CIS countries accounted for 88.8%, CIS countries – 11.2%.
In the commodity structure of imports, the largest share fell on machinery and equipment – 49.7% (in January-August 2020 – 46.5%). In the commodity structure of imports from non-CIS countries, the share of these goods amounted to 53.1% (in January-August 2020 – 49.6%), from the CIS countries – 20.6% (21.4%). The value of the import of these products increased by 38.5% compared to January-August 2020, including mechanical equipment – by 26.6%, electrical equipment – by 23.7%, instruments and optical devices – by 7.5 %. The physical volume of imports of passenger cars increased 1.8 times, and that of trucks – 1.7 times.
The share of chemical products in the commodity structure of imports in January-August 2021 amounted to 18.1% (in January-August 2020 – 18.6%). In the commodity structure of imports from non-CIS countries, the share of these goods amounted to 18.6% (in January-August 2020 – 19.2%), from the CIS countries – 13.5% (14.0%). Compared to January-August 2020, the value of imports of chemical products increased by 25.9%, and physical – by 5.9%. At the same time, the physical volumes of supplies of pharmaceutical products increased by 33.4%, plastics and products from them – by 13.4%, rubber, rubber and products from them – by 11.2%, soap and detergents – by 3.5% , products of organic and inorganic chemistry – by 2.8% and 2.3%, respectively. Fertilizer supplies fell 1.9%.
The share of imports of food products and raw materials for their production in January-August 2021 amounted to 11.6% (in January-August 2020 – 13.2%). In the commodity structure of imports from non-CIS countries, the share of these goods amounted to 10.3% (in January-August 2020 – 11.6%), from the CIS countries – 22.1% (25.7%). The value and physical volumes of imports increased by 13.7% and 5.3%, respectively. Supplies of sunflower oil increased by 39.1%, wheat and meslin – by 28.1%, fresh and frozen fish – by 17.3%, cheeses and cottage cheese – by 13.0%. At the same time, the physical volumes of supplies of milk and cream decreased – by 29.4%, fresh meat and ice cream – by 14.6%.
The share of metals and metal products in the commodity structure of imports in January-August 2021 amounted to 6.9% (in January-August 2020 – 7.0%). In the commodity structure of imports from non-CIS countries, the share of these goods amounted to 5.7% (in January-August 2020 – 6.2%), from the CIS countries – 17.5% (13.7%). The value of this commodity group increased by 28.2% compared to January-August 2020, and the physical volume – by 7.6%. The physical volumes of supplies of flat rolled products of iron and unalloyed steel increased by 10.8%, ferrous metals and products made from them – by 8.1%. The physical volumes of imports of ferrous metal structures decreased by 14.5%, pipes – by 12.2%.
The share of textiles and footwear in January-August 2021 amounted to 5.9% (in January-August 2020 – 6.7%). In the commodity structure of imports from non-CIS countries, the share of these goods amounted to 5.7% (in January-August 2020 – 6.6%), from the CIS countries – 7.9% (7.5%). The value volume increased by 14.5%, and the physical volume – by 18.0%.
The share of imports of fuel and energy products in January-August 2021 remained at the level of the same period in 2020 and amounted to 0.8%. In the commodity structure of imports from non-CIS countries, the share of these goods remained at the level of the previous year and amounted to 0.5%, from the CIS countries – 3.1% (3.4%). The value of this commodity group increased by 29.2% compared to the same period last year, and the physical volume remained at the level of January-August 2020.
In the country structure of Russia’s foreign trade, the European Union accounted for 35.7% of Russian trade in January-August 2021 (in January-August 2020 – 34.4%), the CIS countries – 12.1% (13.0% ), for the EAEU countries – 8.9% (9.0%), for the APEC countries – 34.0% (34.6%).
The main trade partners of Russia in January-August 2021 among non-CIS countries were: China, with which trade turnover amounted to 85.9 billion US dollars (130.3% compared to January-August 2020), Germany – 35.9 billion US dollars. (140.5%), Netherlands – USD 28.7 billion (153.4%), USA – USD 23.4 billion (148.7%), Turkey – USD 20.7 billion (157 , 7%), Republic of Korea – US $ 19.2 billion (156.8%), Italy – US $ 17.8 billion (142.7%), United Kingdom – US $ 16.6 billion (117 , 6%), France – USD 13.9 billion (172.2%), Poland – USD 13.1 billion (144.5%).
